| | Meguiars Professional Detailing Clay | | Removes overspray and much more from your automotive paint!
Clay is one of the latest and greatest innovations in detailing. The amazing cleaning properties of clay were only discovered in the early nineties, but it has quickly become a favorite among professional detailers, enthusiasts, and collectors.
The creation of today’s clear coat paint finishes necessitated the invention of detailing clay. Airborne contaminants will actually become embedded in the clear coat and washing will not remove them. These contaminants include tree sap, fuel exhaust, rubber particles, bug splatter, hard water deposits, and ordinary dirt. All these things dull your vehicle’s finish and compromise the protection provided by the clear coat.
Detailing clay, like Meguiar’s Professional Detailing Clay, pulls these contaminants out of the paint or clear coat so that it is perfectly smooth and clean. No wash mitt has the ability to grab contaminants like clay.
First you want to see if you need to use clay. Put a plastic sandwich bag over your hand and run your fingers over the paint. If you feel grit or bumps, you are in need of Meguiar’s Professional Detailing Clay. It will easily remove contaminants so your vehicle feels completely smooth. Try the bag test after you’ve clayed and you’ll understand the difference.
Meguiar’s Professional Detailing Clay is among the best on the market. It’s easy to use, reliable, inexpensive, and made from high quality clays.
To use Meguiar's Professional Detailing Clay, you will need to make sure you have a high quality lubricant or a quick detailing spray. We recommend Pinnacle Clay Lubricant for a slick and easy work surface or Meguiar’s #34 Final Inspection for low friction cleaning. You’ll want to work one section at a time in approximately a two square foot area. Spray the surface with the lubricating spray and manipulate the clay bar to a shape that is comfortable to grasp in your hand. Work the surface, rubbing in a back and forth motion. The clay will feel like it is grabbing at the surface. This is normal and a key indicator that the clay is doing the job properly. When you no longer feel the drag and the clay glides smoothly across the area, the surface is clean. Wipe off any residues with a lint free cloth, like a Cobra Microfiber Detailing Towel.
Once you’ve achieved a perfectly smooth finish with Meguiar’s Professional Detailing Clay, you need to add a layer of protection with your favorite sealant or wax. This is very important because the clay removed all the old wax from the surface. Meguiar’s Hi-Tech Paste Wax, Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax or Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant are all excellent choices for long-lasting protection and high resolution shine.
Claying is often regarded as an optional step, but it is the only way to get your paint thoroughly clean. You’ll be amazed at the glass-like, perfectly smooth finish you’ll get with Meguiar’s Professional Detailing Clay.
